Van Rijp voor de Sloop naar Rijksmonument | 20 Dec 2024

Momenteel wordt bij de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed de balans opgemaakt voor het selecteren van nieuwe Rijksmonumenten uit de periode 1965-1990 in Nederland.

Cultuurhistorisch erfgoed is van cruciaal belang, en daarom zou ik zeker de karakteristieke publieke kunstwerken willen noemen, die in de jaren zeventig en begin jaren tachtig zijn gerealiseerd in de metrostations van de Amsterdamse Oostlijn. Deze kunstwerken vormen een integraal onderdeel en zijn van dezelfde tijd als de metrostations.

Enkele opmerkelijke voorbeelden: het prachtige ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ in metrostation Nieuwmarkt, van Louis van Gasteren, Jan Sierhuis, Tine Hofman en anderen. Bij halte Wibautstraat de letters van Opland met het muurreliëf van krantenpagina’s, afgedrukt in beton.

Het zou geweldig zijn als de kunstwerken van de Oostlijn, die eerder in 2011 bij de verbouwing van de metrostations met sloop werden bedreigd, nu op de lijst zouden staan en in aanmerking komen voor de status van Rijksmonumenten. Van ‘Rijp voor de sloop’ naar ‘Rijksmonument’.

From ‘Ripe for Demolition’ to ‘National Monument’ | 20 Dec 2024

Currently, the National Cultural Heritage Agency is taking stock of selecting new national monuments from the 1965-1990 period in the Netherlands.

Cultural heritage is crucial, which is why I would definitely like to mention the characteristic public artworks realised in the 1970s and early 1980s in the metro stations of the Amsterdam East Line. These artworks form an integral part and are from the same time period as the metro stations.

Some notable examples include: the beautiful ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ at metro station Nieuwmarkt, by Louis van Gasteren, Jan Sierhuis, Tine Hofman and others. At the Wibautstraat stop, Opland’s letters with the wall relief of newspaper pages printed in concrete.

It would be great if the artworks of the Oostlijn, which were previously threatened with demolition in 2011 when the metro stations were rebuilt, were now listed and eligible for Rijksmonumenten status. From ‘Ripe for demolition’ to ‘National Monument’.
